Nigel
- Drums and Backing Vocals
Nigel has been a drummer and involved in the music scene
since he was a child. His first drum lessons came in
1966 at the age of 6, and then in 1968 he joined the
school band.
Nigel's first gigs were in 1973 in local pubs and social
clubs, playing in 3 and 4 piece bands. 1975 saw the formation
of the Devon Youth Jazz Orchestra, of which Nigel was
a founder member. At this time he also joined a big swing
band and played in dance halls around the country. Highlights
included playing in France and recording an LP record
during the heatwave of 1976.
Nigel has worked with bands playing the Working Man's
Clubs and the Holiday Camp Circuit. Some of the groups
he has been involved in have made demo tapes and been
featured on local radio. Having been brought up in the
1960's he has been heavily influenced by the Beatles.
His drummer idols are Buddy Rich, Lois Bellson, Gene
Krupa and a drummer from the Exeter area - Jim Newton
- who showed him the ropes and how to play with feeling.
Thanks Jim!
As well as being passionate about music from the big
band era, he loves the 50's, 60's and 70's pop scene.
Nigel gets especially sentimental over John, Paul, George
and Ringo. Oh, and he also idolises the american singer/songwriter
Brandi Carlile - her voice is just perfect.
